Mid-Century English Hand Painted Barbotine Majolica Sardine Cover Box and Plate

About the Item

Decorate a shelf or kitchen counter with this colorful two-piece barbotine dish. Created in England circa 1960 and attributed to Georges Jones & Sons, the dish is rectangular in shape and sits on an attached platter base. The removable top features high relief fish decor on seaweed ground, and embellished with leaf motifs around the box and bottom plate. The sardine box is in excellent condition with rich colors in the cobalt blue, mustard and green palette. Signed JJ on the underside for further authentication. Versatile, the dish could also be used as a butter or cheese tray! Measures: 8.75" W x 7.5" D x 4" H.
