Rare Moravian Pottery Works / Mercer Tile Company Low Bowl or Oblong Plate

About the Item

A fine, rare, American Arts & Crafts pottery low bowl or oblong plate. In the form of a long oblong bowl or plate with protruding handles at either end. There is cracklature throughout that gives it an aged look. The underside of the bowl is decorated with a repeating design that looks similar to a Celtic knot pattern. By the Moravian Pottery Works / Mercer Tile Company. Founded in Bucks County, Pennsylvania in 1911-1912 by Henry Chapman Mercer, the pottery became a premiere maker of "artistic" tiles. The company is known today as The Tileworks. Simply a great piece of pottery from one of Pennsylvania's finest producer of Arts & Crafts pottery! Date: Late 19th or Early 20th Century Overall Condition: It is in overall good, as-pictured, used estate condition with no cracks or repairs. Condition Details: There are losses to the glaze and small chips throughout, especially to the rim and underside of the bowl. There is some crazing to throughout the bowl as well. Otherwise, there are some fine & light glaze and surface scratches & other signs of expected light wear consistent with age.
