About the Item
Offering this gorgeous hand-painted vellum Rookwood pottery tray featuring a detailed multi-colored peacock feather design. This tray is hand-painted with beautiful hues of blue, green and purple. Tray is a known deign by famous Rookwood artist Kataro Shrayamadani who worked for Rookwood from 1887-1948. Marked with the impressed "RP" flame mark with #1668 mold number and "XXI" which dates the piece to 1921, it is also mark with a "V" for Vellum. This tray is in excellent / mint condition with no damage or repairs of any kind. It is PRISTINE with ZERO CRAZING. You rarely see perfect un-crazed vellum glazes on ANY Rookwood vase, maybe 5 out of 100 are un-crazed.
By the turn of the century, Rookwood Pottery became one of America’s most successful pottery companies. The pottery had won the Gold Medal at the 1889 Universal Exposition at Paris before earning the Grand Prix in Ceramics in Paris a year later in 1890, firmly establishing its international fame. Rookwood’s ever-building popularity continued with its experimentation with matte glaze lines, and the company again astounded the ceramic world with its novel Vellum glaze at the 1904 Louisiana Purchase Exposition in St. Louis.
