Rookwood American Art Pottery Vase Hand Painted Landscape - Ed Hurley MINT

About the Item

Offering this gorgeous hand-painted vellum Rookwood pottery vase featuring a lake and tree scene. This vase is hand-painted with beautiful hues of blue, cream, brown and peach, artist signed "ETH" for Edward Hurley, one of the most prolific artist of the Rookwood factory from 1896-1948. Marked with the impressed "RP" flame mark with 2544 mold number and "XLIV" which dates the piece to 1944. This vase is in excellent / mint condition with no damage or repairs of any kind. It is PRISTINE with ZERO CRAZING. You rarely see perfect un-crazed vellum glazes on ANY Rookwood vase, maybe 5 out of 100 are uncrazed. By the turn of the century, Rookwood Pottery became one of America’s most successful pottery companies. The pottery had won the Gold Medal at the 1889 Universal Exposition at Paris before earning the Grand Prix in Ceramics in Paris a year later in 1890, firmly establishing its international fame. Rookwood’s ever-building popularity continued with its experimentation with matte glaze lines, and the company again astounded the ceramic world with its novel Vellum glaze at the 1904 Louisiana Purchase Exposition in St. Louis.
