About the Item
This elegant set of eight antique English creamware plates dates to circa 1785.
Each plate features a delicately pierced border with hearts, dots, and diamonds arranged in eight evenly spaced groups, lending a light, lace-like effect to the rim.
The gently scalloped edges are finished with molded scrolls and foliate accents that enhance the refined silhouette.
The uniformity of the piercing and coordinated decorative elements suggests the set originated as part of a single service.
The warm cream-toned glaze and finely balanced design reflect the sophistication and craftsmanship associated with the finest English creamware of the late 18th century.

Background on Creamware:
Creamware, developed in England in the early 18th century, was celebrated for its strength and delicacy. It reached new levels of refinement in the Staffordshire Potteries under pioneers like Thomas Whieldon and Josiah Wedgwood. Their innovations influenced generations of potters, as seen in the restrained yet intricate design of this exceptional set.
