About the Item

Small Artificial Formations Concrete Plate by Davide Ronco Dimensions: D 45 x H 10 cm. Materials: Concrete. Available in white and black. Please contact us. Concrete, the most widely used material in the world after water, is an evident manifestation of the human imprint on our planet. Perceived as mere artificial, it’s seen detached from everything considered natural. As a reaction to this, a series of objects shows the dialogue between man and nature. Starting with pre-designed moulds, the material is rudimentary thrown, letting the organic flow create the surface as a natural process. Archetypal forms of containers, a vase, a bowl, and a plate, are digitally designed and CNC-milled into moulds. The contrast is given by the actual hand casting process, letting the surface and the material play the main role. Davide Ronco (IT), is a graduate of the Ceramic MA at the Royal Danish Academy and holds a postgraduate from Konstfack University: Research Lab Craft. He lives and works in Copenhagen. His artistic practice is rooted in extensive material research and a commitment to solid craftsmanship. Through his work, he challenges conventional tools and methodologies, using site-specific installations and temporary interventions to explore the dichotomy between the natural and the artificial. Among others, he utilizes locally sourced clay and challenges the limitations of the material by embracing its inherent cracks and imperfections, and rammed earth in a manner that accentuates its temporal and decaying nature, rather than attempting to shield it from the effects of weather conditions. His ongoing research centers on the concept of Ad Extremum, or “until the end; death,” (the human presence’s narrowness) as a reflection of the precarious existence of humankind. Through this lens, he examines themes of transience, fragility, and decay, and the opposition and discrepancies between humanity and nature. At present, he is working on a new research format based on simple principles and study cases. Sustainable Art Practices: Towards a Socio-Ecological Methodology within Site-Specific, Land and Installation Art. Whether with sculpture, furniture, or site-specific installations, his diverse work revolves around found local materials, vernacular and traditional artisanship, and construction methods, involving sustainable and up-cycling processes.
