Very rare vide-poche attributed to Robert Picault Vallauris circa 1950

About the Item

This ceramic vide-poche, attributed to Robert Picault, features his distinctive Vallauris craftsmanship. The piece is characterized by its black-glazed exterior and white interior, adorned with graphic motifs. One design includes a starburst pattern, highlighted with a central orange dot, emphasizing the artist’s modernist aesthetic. The two angular handles and pedestal base provide both functionality and a sculptural quality, making it an elegant yet practical piece. Though unsigned, the design language strongly reflects Picault’s style. Robert Picault (1919–2000) was a renowned French ceramist associated with Vallauris, a hub of post-war pottery. After studying at the École des Arts Appliqués in Paris, he moved to Vallauris in 1946, collaborating with artists like Pablo Picasso. Picault’s work is celebrated for its geometric patterns and earthy tones, blending traditional craftsmanship with modern design principles. His contributions helped Vallauris gain international fame in ceramics. Good condition, more information Upon Request.
