Antique George V Sterling Silver Cigarette Box

About the Item

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique George V English sterling silver cigarette or cigar box; an addition to the ornamental silverware collection. This exceptional antique George V sterling silver cigarette box has a plain rectangular form. The sides of this impressive antique cigarette box is embellished with engine turned decoration, incorporating a rectangular vacant cartouche to the cover. Both the base and cover are encompassed with applied stylised scrolling leaf and foliate decorated borders. This example of antique silverware is fitted with a hallmarked hinged solid silver cover, which retains the original gilding to the interior. The body of this exceptional box is fitted with the original cedar wood lining and adjustable dividers; this box can be refitted with a bespoke velvet jewelry box fitment upon request. This sterling silver cigarette box has a weighted base and retains the original leatherette covering to the underside. By Virtue of its size this versatile box could be used for a multitude of functions. Note: The majority of such boxes have a wood lining to the cover; it is a sign of quality when boxes have an unlined, solid silver covers. Condition This sterling silver cigar box is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional presentation condition. The engine turned ornamentation is all very crisp. Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the rim and part hallmarks to the cover are all very clear; the maker's marks have wear in keeping with age and location, but remain legible. An exceptional, fine and impressive, rare pair of antique George IV English sterling silver boxes; an addition to our 19th century silverware collection. These exceptional and rare antique George IV sterling silver boxes have a plain rectangular form. The surface of each silver box is plain and unembellished, with applied thread decoration to the lower rim. Each box is fitted with a plain hinged hallmarked cover, ornamented with further applied thread decoration to the upper rim. The upper plateaus of the covers are individually embellished with an impressive contemporary bright cut engraved crest: one bears out of a ducal coronet a wyvern below the motto 'Avi Numerantur Avorum' - The forefathers of our forefathers are numbered and to the other an eagle regardant with wings extended grasping an escutcheon charged with a lion's head, below the 'Virtute et Robore' - By Virtue and Strength. An exceptional, fine and impressive vintage Elizabeth II English sterling silver cigarette box in the Art Deco style; an addition to the ornamental silverware collection. This exceptional vintage Elizabeth II sterling silver cigarette box has a plain rectangular form onto four bracket style feet. The surface of this impressive silver box is embellished with impressive engine turned decoration. The box is fitted with two hallmarked hinged covers each embellished with further panels of engine turned decoration in addition to an applied leaf border which continues across a central plateau. The interior of each solid silver cover features a paralleling band of engine turned decoration in addition to the part hallmarks; decoration to the posterior surface of a cover is an indication of the fine quality of a piece. The central plateau is surmounted with an impressive shaped handle, in the Art Deco style. The body of this exceptional box features the original cedar wood lining. This antique Art Deco cigarette box has a weighted base and retains the original leatherette covering to the underside. The box is supported by four impressive cast silver, Art Deco style stepped bracket feet. By virtue of its size this versatile vintage cigarette box could be used for a multitude of functions.
