Japanese Contemporary Black Gold Porcelain Koro Incense Burner

About the Item

Exquisite contemporary Japanese porcelain maki-e pattern koro or incense burner, hand painted on a beautifully shaped round body in Black with generous application of gold, characteristic of maki-e. Literally 'sprinkled pictures', maki-e is a decorative technique, in which powdered silver, gold or other precious materials are hand-applied to lacquer. This Karo is produced in a well respected kiln in the Imari region of Japan and has a history of over a century of producing fine porcelain pieces honoring the traditional techniques and patterns. Beautiful butterflies in gold bring another layer of charm to this piece. This piece is beautiful as a decorative piece as it is when used as an incense burner. Dimensions: H 5 in. D 4 in.
