About the Item

18th century inlaid mahogany Georgian serpentine knife box circa 1790 Good quality decorative box, serpentine fronted and an inlaid with a shell patera to the hinged lid. Many other knife boxes have had the internal sections removed to be converted to letter or stationary boxes, this box has its original drop in interior. Further inlay inside the lid with a star and salt and pepper strung border. Brass key plate to the front. Lock no longer present. Minor surface marks to woodwork, restoration to stringing losses on the exterior. Small loss to woodwork around the interior of lock area. Rich colour and hand re-polished.
