19th Century Antique 1845 Sterling Silver Locking Biscuit Box

About the Item

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Swedish silver locking biscuit box; an addition to our silver teaware collection This exceptional antique 19th century Swedish silver locking biscuit box has an oval rounded form, onto a swept pedestal base and four feet. The body of this silver biscuit box is embellished with impressive embossed convex fluted decoration to the lower portion. The upper rim is encompassed with an applied band of applied palmette-style foliate decoration, above the contemporary engraved inscription 'Minne af C.H till E.L & C.L, 18 21/5 48' to the anterior surface. This antique silver box retains the original hallmarked domed hinged cover, encompassed with further paralleling fluted decoration. This impressive cover is surmounted with an embossed silver ribbed handpiece/finial, embellished with scrolling foliate designs and textures and accented with floral medallions to the terminals. This exceptional Swedish silver biscuit box surmounts a swept oval pedestal base, encircled with further band of applied foliate decoration. The base is supported by four impressive cast silver paw style feet, accented with scroll and foliate designs in junction with the base. The box retains the original fitted fully working lock and functional key. The hallmarks to the underside of this impressive biscuit box include: Makers mark: AL (Adolf Lilja) Silver quality/purity mark: Three Crowns National mark (Swedish, .830, 830/1000) Town mark: Crowned Head (Stockholm) Date mark: P4 (1845) This exceptional antique 19th century Swedish silver biscuit box is the finest of its type you could hope to acquire. Condition This silver biscuit box is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional presentation condition; it can be determined this piece has seen little to no use. The Swedish hallmarks struck to the underside of the body and sleeve of the cover are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver. A magnificent, fine and impressive, rare antique Victorian English sterling silver vesta box modelled in the form of a boar; an addition to our ornamental silverware collection This magnificent antique Victorian cast sterling silver vesta box has been realistically modelled in the form of a boar. This impressive antique vesta case is embellished with details replicating the features of the boar's coat of fur and anatomical features. The back of the boar incorporates a hallmarked hinged cover which opens to reveal the serrated panel/match striker. The secondary hallmarked hinged panel opens to reveal the original gilt interior; this is faciliated with a thumbpiece modelled in the form of the boar's tail. Such magnificent period examples are rare and becoming increasingly difficult to locate. Condition This antique Victorian vesta box is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The surface of this Edwardian jewelry box is plain and embellished with two applied sterling silver balls to the anterior convex arched surface, replicating the details of the draw handles.
