19th Century English Victorian Brass Black Lacquer Papier-mache Dressing Box

About the Item

A large antique English Victorian era brass-mounted papier-mache dressing box. 19th century, England, large shaped casket form, exterior in a black lacquered finish embellished with ornate riveted and incised brass mounts. The hinged-lid top lifting open to reveal a visually striking blue interior fitted with a removable compartmentalized tray over open compartment, rising on bracket feet. circa 1875 Dimensions: (approx) 7" High, 16" Wide, 13.25" Deep; 7lbs As warm and handsome as it is functional, having the ideal size and proportions for a variety of different uses, including as a gentleman's dresser valet, ladies vanity chest, desk organizer, jewelry casket, caddy, sewing work case, decorative table box, or stunning period accent piece! Condition Report: Overall great antique condition with nicely aged patina. Retaining antique character and charm throughout, including scattered nicks, minor losses, and evidence of old restoration to one foot, wear consistent with age, use and handling.
