About the Item

A Swedish original green painted and carved bentwood box from the Gustavian Folk Art period. These small 19th Century Scandinavian collectibles were usually hand crafted and sometimes painted, to keep personal small objects and simple (but precious for the owners) piece of jewelry, sewing tools or letters. Many times they were gifted from the fiancé or the husband of young woman living in the countryside of Sweden. Additionally they were given by older woman to younger daughters or relatives who would carve the new owners date and initials on them. Sometimes these Scandinavian collectibles are older than the dates that were given. particular one, dated 1815, with the initial "I L S" was donated to a young man (the Son of I. L) in the painted date period.
