Adriana Binazzi Italy Art Deco Sterling Silver and Macassar Wood Box, 1930s

About the Item

This is a luxury Art Deco sterling silver and wood-lidded box hand-crafted by silversmith Adriana Binazzi, Firenze, Italy, in the 1930s. The rectangular shape boasts a refined composition with a Macassar wood body ornate with a sterling silver handle and a large decorative sterling stripe on the lid with a textured pattern. Perfect on a vanity or dresser, this box will be highly decorative in any sophisticated interior. The box is hallmarked "10 FI" (Adriana Binazzi) and "800." The box is in excellent condition, with only minor wear consistent with age and use. Measurements: 7.07 in wide (18 cm) x 3.57 in deep (9 cm) x 2 in. high (5 cm). Note: Adriana Binazzi was a silversmith company in Firenze, Italy. The company was in business from 1935 to 1971. Note: 800 silver refers to a silver alloy that is 80% pure. Pure silver is very soft and easily damaged, so for practical purposes, silver is mixed (alloyed) with other metals to strengthen it. 800 silver is one of many diverse silver alloys commonly used in the 20th Century. Today, 800 silver is not a frequently used silver standard. Historically, it was commonplace in Germany, Italy, and the United States.
