About the Item

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique French 14 karat gold and enamel vesta case, an addition to our boxes and cases collection. This exceptional antique French 14-karat yellow gold and enamel vesta case has a plain rectangular form with a chamfering upper portion. The anterior and posterior surfaces of this antique vesta case are embellished with panels of exceptional hot enamel ornamentation incorporating figures dressed in late 19th century attire, entertaining themselves within a stately garden. Either side of the box is ornamented with a yellow enamel panel accented with the green wording '15c Paris' and 'Allumettes Chimiques', chemical matches. Each panel is encompassed with a red enamel border in addition to a narrow display of 14-karat yellow gold. This gold vesta case is fitted with a hallmarked hinged cover incorporating a plain rounded thumb piece to the rim. The cover is further embellished to the anterior surface with an enamel panel depicting a stone structure amidst rural landscaping and a flower basket design to the interior surface. There is an integrated textured panel or match striker to the underside. Vesta cases of this style are typically crafted in silver and it is rare to find an example in gold; this indicates the high quality of the piece. Condition This antique gold and enamel vesta case is an exceptional gauge of gold, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The enamel panels are in perfect condition. There are no hallmarks as to be expected with such a piece; the date and origin can be determined by the composition and decoration. This exceptional German sterling silver dressing table box has a cylindrical form with a domed cover. The surface of the body is embellished with an impressive blue hot enamel panel incorporating scrolling leaf and floral decoration. This antique box is fitted with the original hinged cover embellished with exceptional hot enamel ornamentation, all framed with a plain border. The domed enamel panel to the cover depicts a female in draped layered clothing interacting with a male figure, examining harvested fruits. The interior of the box retains the original gilding.
