Antique Gilt Copper & Enamel Ladies Compac with Hand Painted Portrait

About the Item

This antique miniature ladies compac is unsigned with respect to the maker, but originated from Italy and dates to approximately 1880 and done in a Renaissance Revival style. The box is composed of copper with ornate engraving on all sides and the back, with a floral motif with a gilt finish. The top is done with an elaborate border and features a hand painted portrait medallin in the center, surrounded by enamelling. The original mirror is in good period condtion and the hinges and clasp function as intended. The compac is clearly marked "Made Italy" with impressed markings on the inside.
