About the Item
Beautiful antique tramp art box with mirrored panels on the sides and top, pointed feet and a triangular lid, partly covered with green velvet inside and decorated with a small mirror, rare collector's item from the early 20th century.
Handy box to use as a trinket or trinket box, jewelry box or simply as a decorative object. This box has a beautiful patina of age, the mirror glass is decoratively weathered by age.
Beautiful form of folk art, everyone could make a tramp art object with what they had at hand, which is why there are very rarely 2 identical pieces, these unique items have a high collector's value and are highly sought after.
Tramp art is a style of woodworking that emerged in America in the second half of the 19th century. Some of the defining characteristics of tramp art include chip or notch carving, the reclamation of cheap or available wood such as that from cigar boxes and shipping crates, the use of simple tools such as pocket knives and the layering of materials into geometric shapes using glue or nails.
This item is in very good condition, no damage to the carvings, usually they are always damaged somewhere, this one has stood the test of time very well, the underside of the inside was probably also lined with velvet at one time, the key is unfortunately missing, check the photos for more details!
