About the Item

Victorian English bird's eye maple lap desk, with ebony and mother-of-pearl inlay. The dome shaped top has a brass shield medallion in the center. The interior has a vibrant purple felt writing surface. The top and bottom surfaces open for storage to reveal a figured mahogany style surface. The front section has a removable pen tray for additional storage. The original glass inkwell with lid is retained. The original lock is present but the key is not retained. Dimensions: 5.25"h x 13"w x 9.25"d (closed) Condition: Good/Fair. The box is charming but would benefit from some TLC. The exterior shows some shrinkage with some of the inlay missing. The key is not retained and the lock mechanism is engaged resulting in the lid not fully closing. The felt retains a vibrant color. The writing surfaces are solid but not completely affixed to open smoothly. The glass inkwell and stopper are retained.
