About the Item

Art Deco Compact – Lacquer and Brass – "The Fox and the Crow" Decor, 1930s Rare compact powder case and travel vanity box, dating from the 1930s (French craftsmanship). The lid features a stunning black and multicolored lacquer design, illustrating the famous fable by Frenh author Jean de La Fontaine, “The Fox and the Crow.” A humorous nod to this tale of vanity and flattery—perfectly suited to a beauty accessory ! The interior includes a lipstick compartment, a powder section, and small storage spaces for various items (sponges, brushes, etc.). The mirror shows some patina due to age, but no chips or cracks (fully functional and reflective). Signed with the artist’s initials “DN” on the lacquered surface (lower right corner). A beautiful Art Deco piece, showcasing remarkably fine lacquer work. Please note: minor surface scratches consistent with age (over 100 years old!).
