Edouard -Marcel Sandoz (1881-1971) was a french sculptor who worked in bronze, ceramics and the direct carving of stone. Born in Basel, educated in Switzerland, Edouard Marcel Sandoz worked mainly in Paris where he settled in 1908. He studied at the School of Fine Arts with Antonin Mercié and Jean-Antoine Injalbert. Sandoz of Switzerland was most famous as a sculptor of animals. Theodore Haviland - Limoges manufacture was created by David Haviland who had a china shop in New York City and established an alliance with a manufacturer who could create pieces of porcelain for the American trade. This was near the source of the abundant kaolin mines, the special white clay unique to Limoges porcelain. He established his own company in 1853 to produce china specifically for the American market.
