About the Item
A richly coloured malachite glass trinket box, crafted in Czechoslovakia during the mid-20th century, circa 1950s. This rectangular lidded box is a direct aesthetic descendant of the decorative glassware designed by Heinrich Hoffmann and Curt Schlevogt, two pivotal figures in the Czech Art Deco glass movement. It is highly likely that this piece was produced using one of the original moulds or reissued moulds created for Schlevogt’s “Ingrid” line, known for its use of coloured glass and stylised motifs.
The lid features a low-relief design resembling an abstracted ear of wheat—rendered with the sharply defined, angular forms characteristic of late Art Deco styling. The surface has a satin sheen, with soft internal swirls in the glass that enhance its resemblance to natural malachite stone. The box retains its original "Bohemia Glass – Made in Czechoslovakia" foil label, still intact on the lid, a detail that adds both provenance and charm.
A practical yet ornamental piece, this small box would have originally served as a trinket or powder box—ideal for jewellery, keepsakes, or vanity table display.

Vallauris Ceramic Poker Ashtray Set, Green Glazed with Gilt, France, 1960s
By Vallauris
Located in Glasgow, GB
This rare set of four handcrafted ceramic ashtrays by Vallauris is a striking example of mid-century French design, playfully inspired by the world of poker. Each ashtray is uniquely shaped to represent a card suit—spade, club, diamond, and ace—creating a cohesive yet distinctive collection. The deep malachite-green glaze lends a rich, almost jewel-like quality to the pieces, further accentuated by the bold gold gilt borders that highlight the shape of each piece.
Housed in their original faux lizard-skin presentation box, these ashtrays have been well preserved. The glaze remains glossy and deep, with no apparent signs of ash residue, suggesting they were rarely, if ever, used for their intended purpose. The gold detailing exhibits some minor surface wear, but it retains its brightness, adding to the vintage charm. Measuring approximately 8 cm in length and width, with a height of 3 cm, each piece is perfectly sized for tabletop display.
While originally designed as ashtrays, their sculptural forms and opulent finish make them equally suited for use as decorative objects or small trinket dishes...
