About the Item

Early 19th century painted pine blanket box circa 1828. Fine example of the traditional method of storage in Sweden, utilising the plentiful pine and hand decorating. Rectangular box with a flat lid, which makes it ideal to double up as a coffee table.  Hand painted in a plum red with simulated grain effect over the top.  Initialed on the front k.E.D and dated 1828. Original metal work.  Working lock and key. Lid opens to reveal a plain interior with fitted candle box. Expected minor shrinkage but structurally sound. Clear fading to paintwork.
