About the Item
Edwardian Marquetry Sunburst Walnut and Burlwood Box, England, Late 19th Century
A finely crafted Edwardian circular parquetry box, England, late 19th century. The lid is adorned with an intricate sunburst marquetry pattern radiating from a carved domed center, composed of contrasting light and dark figured woods, including walnut, satinwood, and burlwood veneers. The body is veneered in richly figured burlwood with delicate inlaid elliptical linework, raised on four turned feet and rimmed with crossbanded borders.
The lid lifts to reveal a simple interior with a fitted, removable rim. Elegant and decorative, this box likely functioned as a tabletop humidor, tea caddy, or dressing box, showcasing the refined inlay craftsmanship typical of Edwardian cabinetmaking.
