English Victorian "Dome Top" Figured Burl Yew Wood Letter Box Circa 1865
About the Item
Lovely British made Victorian (circa 1865) hard to find yew wood "dome top" compartmentalized writing box;. Tea caddies of this style are more prevalent, so writing boxes are especially rare. The highly figured mellow yew wood original surface is complimented by the nicely patinated original pierced brass mounts ,which have aged naturally and have not been highly over polished. The two full top surface mounts are in addition to the three front mounts; of which the center one incorporates a key hole escutcheon. The double hinged top opens to expose seven different size compartments to hold letters, notes, paper, and pen & pencil.
This mid 19thC box is from my own personal collection and is completely original in every aspect (lovely surface!) with no restorations or replacement of any kind and all original brasses; simply a gorgeous piece.
