Excellent Huge Wooden Box, Casket, circa 1900, Jugendstil, Austria

About the Item

Huge wonderfully decorated wooden box, an original of the Jugendstil era, made in Austria. This casket is an impressive example of the craftsmanship of the period around 1900. Only exclusive materials were used - the object was made in mahogany, veneered with palisander with a special grain. All circumferential edges have been provided with maple, which forms a wonderful contrast to the other woods used. All four sides are decorated with maple threads in curved shapes, also the lid is decorated with an frame and an interesting arrow decoration in maple. On the front of the lid there are two handles in the form of ebonized balls, wich form also the base of the box. The lid is hinged and so that it does not fall backwards it is secured with a small chain. Measurements approx: height 16,5 cm - 6,5 in, width 55 cm - 21,65 in, depth: 53 cm - 20,87 in Boxes in this dimension and this high quality are very rare, an excellent piece.
