French 19th Century Napoleon III Period Ebony, Ormolu, and Brass Box

About the Item

A most elegant French 19th century Napoleon III period ebony, ormolu, and brass box. The box is raised by fine ormolu ball feet below a lovely wrap around mottled band. Each ebony side is framed within exceptional brass fillets while the front displays a delicate brass keyhole escutcheon and striking ormolu key with a richly chased tied berried laurel design. The box opens to reveal the finished mahogany, striking burl elm interior, and all original hardware. The top displays a stunning and meticulously inlaid brass scene of charming love birds perched on a crossed quiver and eternal flame with a bow and arrow tied with an exceptional floral garlands amidst lovely laurel branches all framed within interlocking brass fillets. Exceptional attention to detail throughout.
