French Limoges porcelain candy box decorated with colorful peacocks - France

About the Item

Very pretty and old Box or Candy Box with Lid in Limoges porcelain with Multicolored bird decorations. The birds depicted are peacocks. The edges of the lid and the box are decorated with a blue flower frieze. The lid is domed which gives the box a round and delicate shape. The patterns are very fine and colorful. Charming lozenge box, very decorative. By CID Limoges - France - 1950 Limoges porcelain was born, between 1765 and 1770, from the discovery of kaolin near Limoges, an essential material for the production of this hard and translucent ceramic. With that of Sèvres, it is one of the two main porcelain productions in France, and the only one coming from a real production territory, organized around the city of Limoges (Haute-Vienne), represented by several companies still in activity, some of which is centuries old.
