Bohemia Red Crystal candy box or bezel - XIXth - Czech Republic

About the Item

Beautiful bezel on foot with Bohemia crystal - XIXth Candy box or cup with lid. Magnificent visual effects by the work and the alternation of translucent crystal and red crystal. Bohemia crystal is renowned for its elegance and purity (thanks to its lead content of at least 24%). Decorated with antique characters in gilding. Beautiful crystal craftsmanship late 19th century It was in the 18th century that Bohemia distinguished itself in the history of the crystal industry both by the creation of crystal and by the quality of its glass workers. The name "crystal", however, is older since it was used in Venice at the end of the 15th century by Venetian glassmakers to characterize particularly fine and transparent glass objects. It was not until the 18th century that Bohemian crystal marked the quality of a hard and sparkling glass that supplanted Venetian production on royal tables. Glassworkers from Bohemia emigrated to Northwestern Europe at this time, and brought their technique and know-how.
