About the Item
A Very Rare George III Parcel Gilt and Gold Neo Classical Aide Memoire Made Most Probably in London circa 1775. Does Not Contain Ivory.
This very rare parcel gilt Aide Memoire has a slightly tapering rectangular form, with hinged cover. The bright cut zig-zag borders enclose trellis work panels and ovals containing very unusual Gold Neo Classical Urn motifs, with male mask motifs on each side. The top of each side also displays a gold banner, one side engraved with D'Amitie and the other with Souvenir. The top of the cover is also engraved with Thomas Eyre, obviously the original owner. The cover opens up to reveal a compartment for a pencil and ivory leaves. This piece is in excellent condition and is a very rare example from this period, especially being parcel gilt and gold and modelled in the Neo Classical tradition.
