Georgian Mahogany Wall Hanging Cutlery Or Candle Box
About the Item
A Very Attractive And Unusual George III Period Mahogany Wall Hanging Candle Box, Or Cutlery Box, Having Wonderful Pierced Fretwork Design To Top, Over Sloping Hinged Lid And Well Figured Elegant Tapered Front Inlaid With Knife And Fork Decoration.
Wall hanging boxes from the Georgian period are relatively regularly found, but not many of them are as lovely as this one. Firtly it could have been made originally as either a candle box or a knife box, it is pretty much impossible to be definitive about that.
The box features beautiful, intact, pierced fretwork carving at the top which is extremely elegant and really adds to the box. It is also constructed from superbly figured mahogany timbers which have retained a lovely colour and patina.
Finally of course the inlaid decoration is really lovely. It has been well executed and lifts the box to another level in terms of decoration and elegance.
As with all items which we offer for sale the georgian box has been inspected and attended to by our highly skilled, trained antique furniture restorers and received a natural wax polish before being placed on sale to ensure its in the best possible condition.
