German Pforzheim 1920 Guilloche Blue Enamel Round Box In .935 Sterling Silver

About the Item

A guilloche enameled round box. Fabulous German early 20th century enamel box, created in Pforzheim Germany, circa 1920. This beautiful box was carefully crafted at the workshop of E&W, with impeccable details in solid .935/.999 standard silver with gold gilt interiors finish. Made of circular form with a five barrels hinged lid raised by a simple thumbpiece. Engine turned guilloche decoration topped with applications of translucent light blue enamel. Weight: 86.40 Grams, (55.38 Dwt). Measurements: Diameter of 61 mm and a height of 22.5 mm (2.40 x 0.89 Inches). Hallmarks: Stamped with German marks of the crescent moon and the crown, the maker's mark monogram ESW, an unidentified mark with a flower and the mark for the assay of the .935 silver. Note: The maker's mark ESW is stamped over a mark indicating .800. Looks like by mistake was previously stamped .800 for the silver fineness and then re-stamped E&W, obliterating the mistaked silver mark. The German pieces for export should be made with a fineness of .935/.999 and for national consumption .800/.999. This was established by the common country treaty in Europe for importation of silver-made pieces. Guilloché Is a term used in fine jewelry or objets de vertu to enhance the appearance of boxes, frames, brooches, rings or pendants. Guilloché enamel refers to metal pieces that have been given the Guilloché treatment and then covered with a translucent layer of enamel, giving the geometric patterns underneath the enamel a colorful hue. Collateral: It is accompanied by a presentation jewelry pouch. Condition: The overall condition of this box is impeccable. Beside the little normal wear, there is no trace opf wear to the silver. Tenamel is secured in the settings. This piece has been carefully inspected to guarantee the condition and authenticity. INVENTORY REF: D062930STMK/2.589
