About the Item
A box as precious as the jewels it could contain inside, almost certainly hand-carved in Italy with the highest quality onyx marble. Although this jewelery box dates back to the 1950s and 1960s, the design winks at the style of the 18th century with its casket shape and small golden lion's feet which give a touch of opulence.
The two sides of this 20th century box are joined together by a gilded metal hinge that matches the lion's feet finish.
The box has a rectangular section, sculpted to create a dome at the top, like a true ancient casket, while the lower one is carved in order to create four pot-bellied sides.
The surface is super smooth and shiny, the chromatic variations of the marble are splendid and like a vortex of waves from jade green to sienna they create a magical decoration, capable of reminding us how much mans can enhance the beauty of the materials present in Nature as the marble, thanks to his touch.
The box is in good vintage condition, intact, with minimal signs of oxidation on the metal parts and some small scratches on the top of the box.
