Large Carved Wood & Hand Painted Porcelain Bottle Box
About the Item
This is a heavy large wood box decorated with hand painted porcelain plaques in the front and both sides of it. They feature some cupids dancing while playing some instruments while others are trying to move a goat. Also there is a cupid-centaur playing a pair of cymbals and dancing. In the sides, there is a cupid playing the flute & the other one is filing the tip of an arrow. The top of the lid depicts a relief of a beautiful carving of a tambourine over some crossed trumpets and branches with leaves. Another carving of continuous reeded drops border the lid. The lower base is embellished by the carving of half rosettes encircled by demilunes. There is also some carved acanthus leaves in the corners. The back is adorned by a grape vine & fleurs de lis in the corners carving. The box is supported by four double disc’s feet. An oval golden brass lock is in the front, but there is no key.
