About the Item
Marius-Ernest Sabino, the sculptor who became a master glassmaker of Art Deco
The year is 1878, Marius-Ernest Sabino was born in Sicily, in the town of Acierale (Italy). In 1882, his father, a wood sculptor, took him and his entire family to France, where Marius-Ernest went to study wood sculpture.
Encouraged by his father, he also followed artistic training at the National School of Decorative Arts and Fine Arts in Paris.
To manufacture molds of his pieces, Marius-Ernest Sabino uses the same pressed-molded glass techniques for the molding and finishing of his creations. However, with the recent advent of electricity, opalescence (half-crystal) becomes dominant in its productions.
