About the Item
Meindert Zaalberg Studio Pottery 'Stop' lidded box. The Netherlands, 1962. Beautiful lidded box or pot designed by famous Dutch pottery artist Meindert Zaalberg (1907-1989) for his company Pottery Zaalberg. This is from the series 'Stop' designed in 1962, which translates like 'Plug' and refers to the shape of the handles of other items from the collection. This lidded box does not really show that particular shape as obvious as the other items from the collection - although the lid also looks a bit like a plug - but nevertheless belongs to it. Hand made and with a wonderful tactile surface consisting some 'rings' which are visible on the side and on the lid. The lid is positioned in the middle with nice thick edges around it. The inside of the box is speckled cream white, in Dutch referred to as 'Griesmeel', semolina porridge. Great vintage condition with no faults. Signed on the base.
