About the Item

A small turtle-shaped trinket box in solid brass, produced in Italy during the mid-20th century. The form is cast with clean detailing and finished to a mirror polish. The shell opens on a rear hinge to reveal a shallow, central bowl. The piece measures 12.5 cm wide, 7 cm deep, and 3.5 cm high. Surface wear is present, along with areas of oxidation and patination to the brass—consistent with age and use. The hinge functions well and the piece closes neatly. A modest but well-made example of mid-century Italian decorative brassware.

Murano Glass Shell Dish in Red, Attributed to Archimede Seguso, 1950s
By Archimede Seguso
Located in Glasgow, GB
A decorative Murano glass dish, attributed to Murano glass maestro Archimede Seguso. Handcrafted in Italy in the 1950s, this elegant dish takes the form of a scallop shell, with its bottom edges pinched inward to create the distinctive shape. Made from vibrant red Murano glass and seamlessly fused with a sheet of gold leaf—a signature technique in mid-century Murano glass design—this combination results in a rich, organic pattern. During the firing process, the stretching and forming of the molten glass produce a concentric pattern of gold flakes that radiate outward, echoing the delicate textures found in a natural scallop shell. Measuring 11 cm in width and length, with a height of 3.5 cm, this vintage Murano...
