Modern Sterling Silver Box with 1930s Australian Imperial Force Association

About the Item

Modern sterling silver box, ca 1935. Rectangular with straight sides and curved corners. Cover hinged with tapering tab. Cedar lined interior and leather-lined underside. On cover top engraved presentation: “A.I.F. Unit Competitions / 1937 / Engineers & Signallers / Winner / P. C. Goldstein / 1st Div. Sig.Coy.” Enamel crisscrossing flags of which one for the Royal Australian Corps of Signals. A poignant between-the-wars prize awarded by the Australian Imperial Force. At this time the Engineers and Signallers Unit comprised a chummy couple thousand members. A few years later, more than 32,000 were deployed to Asia, the Pacific, and North Africa. Marked. Gross weight: 12 troy ounces.
