Nicole Freres 6 tune music box

About the Item

Music box made in Switzerland by Nicole Freres in 1852. The wooden box has marquetry with various exotic woods on the lid, there is a simetric cartouche made of lemon wood in the centre and borders on the sides. On the inside of the lid is the melody card. The whole is lacquered red on the inside. On the sides, front and back of the case there is an original wood grain simulation. On the bottom one finds the serial number (30016). This number can also be seen on the mechanism (top right) and the melody card. The Key-wind mechanism plays 6 melodies as provided on the original tune card. The 6 melodies are hymns (of a religious nature) including : Hallelujah.... Boxes from this period are operated by 3 levers located on the left. The mechanism is signed on the base plate (top left), and the original comb The music box plays the melodies as it should, without any hiccups. Beautiful music box in very good playing condition.
