Overture Cylinder Musical Box by Paillard
About the Item
beautiful music box by Pailllard.
The music box was made by the firm Paillard at the end of the 19th century in Switzerland. Paillard was one of the main producers of this type of mechanism and produced high quality music boxes.
This box, with a large cylinder (33cm long and 8cm thick), plays 6 overtures of operas as provided on the melody chart in a very nice setting. Due to the large diameter of the cylinder, a melody lasts much longer than one would expect with a 'normal' music box.
The box has root veneer and piping on the lid, front and sides. On the left and right, there is a rowdy decorated bronze handle.
Winding is on the left side of the mechanism, controls on the right (2 levers (start/stop and repeat/change))
This music box has NOT been tampered with and is in nice, good sounding condition with very nice music as one would expect from a music box of this maker and period.
