Heading : Painted whitewood box Date : 1800-1830 Period : Regency Origin : Probably Tonbridge or Tunbridge Wells, Kent Decoration : Rectangular whitewood box with painted basket of flowers to cover and foliate banding to side panels. Original pink paper lining. Size : 26.6x20.4cm, 7cm height Condition : Lacks key, otherwise minor wear Restoration : None Weight : 639 grams In the time before the tesselated mosaic which Tunbridge ware is generally associated with, painted whitewood boxes were a common theme for the Tonbridge / Tunbridge Wells manufacturers. This was most likely painted in Tonbridge by one of a team of ladies who were employed by Wise et al to decorate their wares.
