Pair of Antique Japanese Meiji Period Porcelain Trinket or Jewelry Boxes

About the Item

Pair of antique porcelain and gold leaf decorative trinket, pill or jewelry boxes / dishes of Satsuma ware from the Dai Nippon/ Great Japan period and painted by Gyokushu. The Shimazu crest on top (circle with cross): Most old and authentic pieces of Satsumaware will have the Shimazu family crest on, usually at the top of the marking (the red circle with the cross in). This mark shows that the pottery was made under the rule of the Shimazu clan and is a good way of determining if the item is of value. The Meiji period, also known as the Meiji era, is a Japanese era which extended from September 1868 through July 1912. This period represents the first half of the Empire of Japan during which Japanese society moved from being an isolated feudal society to its modern form. Fundamental changes affected its social structure, internal politics, economy, military, and foreign relations. ---------- Spirit Gallery presents a harmonious mix of iconic and engaging 20th century pieces and bespoke contemporary lighting.
