About the Item
A very hard-to-find concave square lidded container, box or humidor designed by Jens Quistgaard for Dansk, circa 1960s. The box is made of palisander or rosewood (same family of wood) that was part of Quistgaard’s special “Rare Wood Collection” for Dansk. Gorgeous wood grain and patina on this piece which is in very good vintage contition and measures 3/5"W x 3.5"D x 6"H. A functional and highly decorative piece of Danish modern design. The lid can be inserted either to have the handle up, or down to have a flat top. Bearing Quistgaard’s initials and Dansk Designs Denmark impressed marks on the bottom. Gorgeous and rare piece! #2894
Introduced in 1961, the Rare Woods line represented the finest designs and materials Dansk had to offer. Dansk described them:
Good design grows out of its materials, no matter how hard they are to come by. Designer Jens Quistgaard has gone to the jungles of Nicaragua, Brazil, British Honduras and East Africa for the world's rarest, most exotic woods. And what has he done with them? He has made the world's rarest and most exotic salad bowls, ice buckets, carving boards, trays, boxes and salt & pepper sets. And what must you do? See them, touch them, hold them in your hands.
