Romantic French 19th Century Bellows Shaped Porcelain Box with Courtship Scene
About the Item
Exquisite antique French box, from the 1890s, is a handmade and hand painted miniature porcelain box with hinged lid and is shaped like a fire bellows. The interior of the box is hand painted in rich 24 karat gold. Lid features a romantic vignette of a courtship scene of a man and woman in a garden setting. The man with a musical instrument is romantically serenading a woman in a pink gown. Box and lid feature opulent gold painted fancy embellishments in high relief, which accent the box. The porcelain box has patinaed metal fittings.
Hallmarked with a blue underglaze "X" or crossed arrows and another small blue mark located between the “X”.
Measures 1.5" high x 4.25" deep x 2" wide.
