About the Item
Very rare singing bird box by Jacques Bruguier, made in Geneva circa 1850.
When activated, the lid opens and a finely crafted bird rises from a beautifully pierced and engraved grill. The bird sings a lively tune while turning from side to side, flapping its wings and tail, opening its beak, and turning its head.
It features a fusee-driven mechanism, a technical marvel highly sought after by collectors around the world.
Jacques Bruguier is one of the most celebrated names in the history of Swiss automata and mechanical music. The tortoiseshell case is in pristine condition and adorned with exquisite gold “piqué” work on the lid. The hand-painted enamel shows a brightly colored bird in a vibrant setting.
Rarely complete, this piece still retains its original leather carrying case and winding key.
