Singing Bird Cage with 2 birds by Bontems

About the Item

Rare and very decorative singing bird automaton. Made in de 4th quarter of the 19th century by Bontems in Paris (France). This singing bird cage has a brass gilded base to conseal the mechanism. In the cage there are 2 original birds. The bird are all in lovely original condition with brightly colored plumes. When activated the birds all sing a song, one responding to the other, taking a little pause every now and then… all the birds move the head, and, while singing, the beak and tail. Very valuable, lively animated decorative piece. Fits in every home or colection. If you are looking for a piece to get a conversation going, impress your visiters or just to enjoy the 19th century art of moving automatons, do not look any further, this is it!!
