Top quality made and near-antique box depicting Don Quixote, Sancho Panza and also Miguel de Cervantes. Over the years we have had the pleasure of owning and selling some truly beautiful antique boxes and this handcrafted jewelry box is right up there with the rarest. This superbly hand-crafted and leather covered box was probably made as an ode to the world famous novel by Miguel Cervantes. So if you are looking for a rare, truly decorative, practical and beautifully hand-crafted box then this gem could be perfect for you. On the lid of this box are Don Quixote on his horse and Sancho Panza standing beside his mule. The taller and slimmer figure obviously is Don Quixote. Here he is holding a shield in one and raising a spear with his other arm and in the back you can see some of the windmills and possibly some more 'items' that relate to the story line. The heavier set gentleman beside his mule is of course Sancho Panza. These heads of these 'brothers in arms' are again portrayed on the back and on the front of this box and on the sides are images of Miguel Cervantes and of his worldfamous novel. The details are just as beautiful as the condition of this masterfully hand-crafted Spanish box. We can see that the rounded feet of this box are made of a type of metal, but we believe the rest of this box (underneath the leather) is made of wood. We cannot tell for sure, because there is no damage anywhere and we refuse to damage the leather just to find out. This majestic box will make a great gift for yourself or for somebody who is into reading, who is a Don Quixote fan OR who sells or writes novels. This box also has an amazing patina and as so often is the case, it looks even better in real life. This gem is hand-crafted in the Renaissance Style, it is in very good condition on the inside as well and it even comes with a perfect working lock and key (all original).
