Painted box with a typical Swedish art work decor, dated 1836. A 'timplåda' is a traditional Swedish wooden box, handcrafted with care. Popular during the 18th and 19th centuries, These boxes were used for storing food, candles, textiles, spices, or other valuble items. This boxes often adorned with carvings or paintings, they were sometimes personalized with d ates (such as 1824) and initials (PLS). This box was most likely given as a wedding gift.
