Swedish Original Painted Box Dated 1866

About the Item

A 19th Century original painted decorative box from the region of Jämtland in Sweden, close to the mountain that separates the two Scandinavian countries Norway and Sweden. These types of boxes are usually used to bring food out in the fields or forests for rural workers, but this well done painting decoration with the monogram C.I.D and dated 1866 was probably a wedding gift for a girl, woman where the "D" stands for daughter, the daughter of C.I.
