Traditional Flower and Birds Design with Silver Applications Box, Olinalá

About the Item

This hand painted box is representative of a technique typical of the Olinalá region, in the state of Guerrero in the South of Mexico. Guerrero is the most important lacquer production center in the country known as "Maque". His procedure employs Chia oil -an endemic plant- and different natural pigments. The whole box has an orange background in combination with red and canopies, decorated on its sides and on it’s covered with floral elements, plants, and birds. Inside of the box is painted the same bright orange shade, typically known as azarcón.
