This fine antique Edwardian sterling silver commemorative box has a plain rectangular form with rounded corners. The subtly domed hinged cover of the box retains the original transfer depicting portraits of King Edward VII and Alexandra of Denmark in addition to the coat of arms of Leeds. The cover is further ornamented with the presentation details ‘7th July 1908, Wilfred L Hepton Lord Mayor, Souvenir of the visit to Leeds, of the King and Queen. Presented by the Lord Mayor’. The underside of this box has a subtly concave form proffering a comfortable fit in the majority of pockets. The surface of this antique silver tobacco box is plain and unembellished. This silver tobacco tin or box retains the original sprung flush hinged hallmarked subtly convex cover, which opens by applying gentle pressure to each side. The interior of the box retains the original gilding. This antique Edwardian piece is an exceptional example for its type.
